Getting Closer

Just a few weeks away now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Folks have begun signing up online. It's great!! I have been getting together with some of the folks at the club when we have our Curling Committee meetings. Everything is beginning to come together. This year we will have our rosters, game schedule, and standings online too.

This year I plan on working on my sweeping. I really need to get better at that. Maybe I'll tap some of the good sweepers to give me tips on that :)

Today is the Scottish Fling. It's 9 holes of best-ball golf, followed by dinner. We try to entice new curlers to sign-up and meet the other curlers at this event. I don't really play much golf unless there's a windmill, or an alligator that opens and closes it's mouth, but since it's best-ball... what the heck!!! :)

The ice is scheduled to be ready 10/17. Soon... soon... soon

more later :)

Labor Day

Ahhhh Labor Day...

The day that Summer unofficially ends and Fall begins. Time for the Jerry Lewis Telethon and going back to school....

But now there's something different in my life. Something called Curling!!!!!!!! I never imagined that I would be playing this sport, or should I say being so passionate about this sport. I joined the Nashua, NH Country Club last year and was pleasantly suprised to be introduced to curling!

Last year I tried curling for the first time. I went to the new curler's orientation and Nancy and Darryl Dinsdale showed us how to do the basics. I don't really skate and I'm not very coordinated on a zero friction surface but I had fun. The following week I walked like John Wayne since I used muscles that had lay dormant for 40 some-odd years. Everyone was so nice and helpful that I stuck with it and tried my best. I think I developed some new methods of curling like the "Fall and Push" or the "Tip and Turn", but I stuck with it because of the encouragement of those around me.

About halfway through the season, Bruce Denner gave me a knee slider... well this changed my entire game and I was finally able to slide and deliver the stone.

I can't wait for this season to start!!! I'll be blogging about my curling experiences and include pictures and video throught the season. Stay tuned for more!!!
